graduated from Meijo University in 1987 with a B.S. degree in
Architecture. Aki has been living in the United States since 1995.
He is the ISO coordinator for the Environmental Management System at
North Carolina Asahi, Inc. in Greenville, NC Aki has been interested in wood since he was
nine years old. He enjoyed working as a custom cabinet maker in
New Bern, NC for six years. During that time, he began designing
and building decorative boxes. They were popular and sold well in
specialty shops in New Bern. He also became interested in
woodturning and has designed and produced several bowls, cylindrical
boxes and lidded pots. Aki prefers using wood from trees that have
fallen naturally. His work retains and celebrates the natural
grain of the wood. Someday he hopes to teach woodworking and the
discipline of protecting this valuable environmental resource.
